Schillinger-Berlin am Tempelhofer Feld
About
Honestly, when I first walked up to the Schillinger-Berlin on Herrfurthplatz, I wasn't quite sure what to expect – the building has this unassuming, almost residential feel that doesn't scream "hotel." But that's actually part of its charm. You're right in the heart of Neukölln, which I know sounds intimidating if you've only heard the old reputation, but this particular corner near Tempelhofer Feld is genuinely lovely. The hotel sits on this quiet square where locals walk their dogs in the morning, and you can hear the gentle hum of neighborhood life without any of the tourist chaos you get closer to Mitte.
What really won me over was how the place feels more like staying at a well-organized friend's apartment than a typical hotel. The rooms aren't huge – I mean, this is Berlin real estate we're talking about – but they're thoughtfully laid out with these nice touches like proper reading lights and enough outlets for all your devices (trust me, that matters more than you think). The staff actually knows the neighborhood, too. When I asked about getting to the Sunday flea market at Mauerpark, the front desk guy didn't just give me generic directions – he told me which U-Bahn car to get on to avoid the crowds and mentioned this little café on Weserstraße where I could grab coffee first. That kind of local knowledge is gold when you're trying to experience Berlin like someone who actually lives here.
The real selling point, though, is the location near Tempelhofer Feld. You know that massive former airport that's now this incredible public park? You're literally a five-minute walk away. I'd grab coffee from the little Turkish place around the corner and head over there in the mornings – watching people kite-surf and cycle on what used to be runways never got old. The whole area has this amazing mix of young families, artists, and longtime residents, so you get authentic Berlin without feeling like you're performing tourism. Sure, it's not a luxury place – the elevator is tiny and sometimes the Wi-Fi gets spotty – but for a 3-star hotel, it punches way above its weight. If you want to actually experience Berlin rather than just Instagram it, and you don't need someone in a uniform to carry your bags, this place gets it right.

Quiet and comfortable space to stay in Berlin.
The room was spacious and comfortable. Easy to find and walkable distance to train and bus stops. Supermarkets, bars and more are nearby. Quiet neighborhood.
Superb
great access and easy check-in
unpleasant smell in bathroom
I felt I was living in Berlin as a resident rather than a tourist, great area to stay.
Great location, lots of good places to eat nearby. A market right outside the door on Saturday morning. Easy access to buses and trains. Very nicely decorated and very clean.
The kitchen facilities were very small, just a kettle & fridge. A microwave would be good.
Great, clean, basic place to stay in a really interesting neighbourhood.
It was easy to find and check in, conveniently located, great neighbourhood, clean and comfortable.
I wish the door had an inner deadbolt for security. Also the bathroom could use a bathmat as water from the shower leaks onto the main floor area.

location, furnishings/decor, cleanliness, communication
I hadn't realised there wouldn't be any storage facility available, which was difficult in light of me having a meeting across town and not wanting to schlepp my suitcase along.
We had a great stay, will recommend
The design and the quietness
The host miswrote my email adress which caused a few little entrance problems at the beginning of our stay.
