Spacious 2-Bedroom in the Heart of Friedrichshain
About
You know what caught me off guard about this place? Walking up Richard-Sorge-Straße, you'd never guess from the outside that you're about to step into one of those apartments that actually makes you forget you're in a rental. I mean, Friedrichshain has this mix of Soviet-era blocks and trendy renovations, but this spot – honestly, it's one of the good surprises.
The two bedrooms are genuinely spacious, not that "spacious for Berlin" nonsense where you can barely fit a suitcase. The living area opens up in a way that had me thinking the owner actually lives like a human being, not just trying to cram in as many beds as possible for tourists. What I really appreciated was the kitchen setup – you can actually cook here if you want to hit up the weekend market at Boxhagener Platz (which, by the way, is like a 7-minute walk and totally worth it for Saturday morning coffee and people-watching). The whole place gets this great natural light in the afternoons, especially if you're there in summer when Berlin finally decides to be sunny.
Location-wise, you're right in the sweet spot of Friedrichshain where it feels authentically local but you're not stuck in some residential dead zone. Warschauer Straße station is close enough that you don't think twice about hopping on the S-Bahn, but far enough that you're not dealing with the weekend party chaos spilling over from the Spree clubs. The neighborhood has this lived-in vibe – actual Berliners grabbing döner at the corner spot, kids playing in the courtyard, that sort of thing. I ended up walking to RAW-Gelände a few evenings (maybe 15 minutes through the backstreets) and stumbled onto some pop-up food market I never would have found otherwise. The building itself is pretty quiet – I was worried about street noise, but Richard-Sorge-Straße isn't a main thoroughfare, so you can actually sleep with the windows cracked open. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that "meet me at a random café with your passport" situation you sometimes get with vacation rentals. Honestly, for a 3-star place, it punches way above its weight – I've stayed in fancier hotels that felt more sterile and less comfortable than this apartment.
