About this stay

About

You know what hit me first about The Paul II? It's one of those places that actually lives up to its name – honestly stylish without trying too hard. Located on Paul-Robeson-Strasse in Pankow, this three-bedroom apartment sits in what I'd call the "real Berlin" part of the city, where you'll hear more German than English on the streets and the coffee shops aren't packed with tourists taking Instagram photos of their lattes.

The space itself feels like someone with good taste actually lives there – I mean, not that sterile hotel furniture vibe you usually get. The living areas flow together naturally, and there's enough room for six people without everyone stepping on each other's toes. What I really appreciated was how they set it up for groups; you've got proper seating areas where people can spread out, plus a kitchen that's actually equipped for cooking real meals (not just reheating takeout). The bedrooms are well thought out too – decent-sized windows that let in proper light, and honestly, the beds are comfortable enough that I didn't wake up feeling like I'd been wrestling with the mattress all night. Small detail, but the blackout curtains actually work, which... well, if you've stayed in Berlin apartments before, you know that's not always a given.

Being in Pankow means you're about a 20-minute tram ride from the touristy bits, but that's actually the sweet spot if you ask me. You'll find yourself walking past proper neighborhood bakeries and those hole-in-the-wall döner places that locals line up for. The nearest U-Bahn connection gets you into Mitte pretty easily, and there's something satisfying about coming "home" to a quieter street after a day of sightseeing. I noticed the area gets properly quiet in the evenings – none of that party noise you'd deal with closer to Friedrichshain or Kreuzberg. The building itself has that solid, old Berlin feel without being run-down, and check-in was straightforward (they actually responded to messages quickly, which feels rare these days). Look, it's not going to blow your mind with luxury touches, but it nails what most people actually want: clean, comfortable, well-located, and spacious enough that your group won't drive each other crazy. Plus at this price point for a three-bedroom that sleeps six? In Berlin? That's getting harder to find.

A great stay in a wonderful area of Berlin.

Collecting the keys was very quick and easy. Great Stays via Booking.com contacted us 3 days prior to check in and reconfirmed the time and provided us with the phone number and name of the person checking us in. We were met on arrival by Guila who was incredibly welcoming and showed us around the apartment. Two sets of keys were provided.

What could be improved: There could have been better security on the windows when they were open, we weren't sure on whether it was safe to leave them open at night as the apartment is ground floor and on both sides faces bike storage, considering the large opening windows it would have been easy for someone to enter the apartment even with us there.

A very comfortable and clean apartment, well located in Berlin

The apartment is well furnished and clean, very well positioned in Berlin at few steps from the public transport. The host was nice in facilitating a late check in, which was very much appreciated.

Beautiful apartment in a super location

Natalia was very friendly, meeting us despite being late into Berlin. The Apartment was a great size for our family of 5, and very well appointed - we loved the kitchen. The high ceilings were lovely as well. So easy to get around Berlin from there as lots of public transport nearby. Lots of different shops and stores right next on the corner. Parking is available right outside the building, but only free at night and on Sunday. Machines take coins, but you can use the Easypark App. It's about $24 per day. We would drive up to a ParknRide and catch a train from there instead of paying for parking all day. We felt safe at the apartment as well, as it was well secured. It's worth knowing it is an internal apartment so the windows are all facing into courtyards.

What could be improved: As it's an internal apartment, on the first floor, we kept our curtains closed the whole time as people walk past, and park bikes right next to the bedroom windows. It's not a complaint, but it wasn't expected. We felt it could have been cleaner - lots of dust under the beds that kept coming out. The towels seemed like they weren't completely dried after previously washed - a bit smelly - so we rewashed them. We had to run the drier a couple of times to get them properly dry.

Perfect Location For Your Berlin Stay

Location is absolutely perfect! Close to the supermarket, close to Siebert Bakerei (thank me later) and most importantly right next to all the travel options you could want for getting around easily! Couldn't fault the property at all, Natalia was brilliant and arranged for us an early bag drop and key collection which was incredibly helpful. Thank you.

What could be improved: Only annoyance was that the shower was so powerful, that it overflowed the tray! But hardly a criticism as I would much rather that than a drip of a shower!
