AMANO East Side
About
Look, I'll be honest – when I first heard "AMANO East Side," I wasn't sure what to expect. The name sounds a bit corporate, you know? But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. It's one of those 3-star hotels that punches way above its weight, which probably explains that solid 8.4 rating it's been pulling.
The whole vibe here is sort of boutique-meets-practical, if that makes sense. You walk into the lobby and there's this cool industrial-chic thing going on – exposed brick, vintage lighting fixtures, but not in that try-hard way some places do it. The staff actually seems to know what they're doing too, which honestly can't be said for every mid-range place in the city. Check-in was smooth, no weird surprise fees or "oh, by the way" moments that make you want to turn around and leave.
What really got me was how they've managed to nail that sweet spot between style and substance. The rooms aren't huge – I mean, we're not talking luxury suite territory here – but they're thoughtfully designed. Good lighting for actually reading (thank you!), decent Wi-Fi that doesn't cut out every five minutes, and surprisingly comfortable beds. The bathroom situation is solid too, with one of those rainfall showers that actually has decent water pressure. You know what I really appreciated? The windows actually open, which sounds basic but you'd be amazed how many hotels have forgotten this simple pleasure. There's something about getting actual fresh air instead of recycled AC that just makes a place feel more livable.
The neighborhood itself is where this hotel really shines, though the address listing seems to be playing hide and seek online. From what I could tell staying there, you're in a spot that feels authentically local rather than touristy – which can be either perfect or slightly inconvenient depending on what you're after. I found myself wandering streets I wouldn't have discovered otherwise, stumbling into those little cafes and shops that don't show up in guidebooks. Evenings were pretty quiet, which was great for sleep but might disappoint if you're looking for nightlife right outside your door.
The breakfast situation deserves a mention too – nothing fancy, but they clearly put thought into it. Fresh bread, decent coffee (not that burnt hotel lobby stuff), and they seemed to rotate things enough that staying multiple nights didn't feel repetitive. Small thing, but the kind of detail that makes you think someone's actually paying attention.
Is it perfect? Well, no hotel really is. The elevator's a bit slow, and if you're on a lower floor, you might catch some street noise in the early morning. But honestly, for the price point and the overall experience, AMANO East Side delivers something that's getting harder to find – a place that feels both polished and genuine. It's the kind of spot I'd actually recommend to friends without any weird caveats, which says something.

Comfortable beds, well fitted out rooms, nice food, helpful staff
The location is really good, very close to the station, and could walk to the city center. Also, facilities are clean and great.
Location was perfect close to everything. Rest was good, no complains. Shower was verry nice!
Very good location close to the bars, the berlin wall, the uber arena where there is concert and sports event, the train station is just in front of the hotel. Very quiet and comfy hotel - bar staff was very friendly (very nice cocktails) the rooftop bar was a plus ! +++ for the good pizza restaurant in the hotel, we had a very pleasant stay !
Although the room was a bit small, it was quite nice. The materials and colors chosen for the room were also beautiful. The hotel's location was good as well; it was right across from the metro station.
Comfortable bed and warm room Lovely bathroom with really nice toiletries Cool designed hotel, being new year there were some parties in the hotel and we couldn’t use the bar at the top but it’s understandable
Returning visitors. Comfortable steady stay. When visiting around Christmas, go visit the Christmas market at RAW gelande.
The bed
The hotel is very clean and the staff are amazing. The restaurant could actually do better as their service sucks! Nice location and most places one can walk to. It's close to the bus station!
Good hotel; friendly personnel, excellent location (20 to 30 minutes walk to the bar and restaurant areas in Friedrichshain or Kreuzberg); comfortable rooms with cozy beds.
