Apartment & Boardinghouse Berlin Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg
About
You know what's interesting about this place? It's not really a traditional hotel at all – it's more like scattered apartment buildings throughout Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, which honestly took me a minute to wrap my head around. When I first booked, I was expecting one central location, but they actually give you different addresses depending on availability. Sounds confusing, but it turned out to be kind of brilliant.
The area itself is... well, it's proper Berlin. I mean, this is where locals actually live and work, not the touristy bits around Brandenburg Gate. You'll find yourself walking past Turkish döner shops, vinyl record stores that smell like coffee and old paper, and these amazing street art murals that change every few months. The buildings are mostly converted from older residential blocks – some have that satisfying creak of wooden floors, others are more modern with better soundproofing (though honestly, you're in one of Berlin's liveliest neighborhoods, so don't expect monastery-level quiet). What I loved was how each apartment felt different. Mine had these tall windows that let in tons of light during those long summer evenings, and the kitchen was actually functional – not just a hot plate and mini-fridge situation like so many places.
The whole setup works surprisingly well once you get used to it. Check-in was smooth (they send you detailed instructions beforehand, which I actually read for once), and having a proper apartment means you can grab groceries at the Turkish market on Kottbusser Tor and cook dinner instead of eating out every night. Speaking of Kotti – yeah, it looks a bit rough around the edges, but it's got character and the public transport connections are fantastic. You're basically fifteen minutes from anywhere you want to be, whether that's the galleries in Mitte or the clubs in... well, right in your backyard. Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg is club central. The 8.4 rating makes total sense to me – it's not luxury, but it gets the important stuff right. The apartments are clean, the beds are comfortable, and you get that feeling of actually living in Berlin rather than just visiting it. Only downside? Sometimes the WiFi gets a bit spotty during peak hours, and if you're unlucky with your location assignment, you might end up with some street noise. But honestly, that's just Berlin being Berlin.

Perfect
How big the apartment was!! Very spacious
The building looks bit scary
Fantastic service - we got in a bit early which was so helpful
Great location & clean
No washing machine
Our stay was fabulous, the apartment was comfortable, clean and in an exceptional location.
Location
Lovely two bedroom
Great spacious apartment and so close to the underground stations! Key handover very easy, we arrived earlier than expected and it was no problem getting access to the apartment. Quiet area at nighttime, I would definitely recommend.
Very good
Great wee flat, very handy for the U-Bahn
There was an issue with the hot water for 3 days. However this was an issue with the block not the apartment, and the staff were proactive about getting it sorted
Great place to stay
Spacey and very comfortable 5th floor apartment overlooking trees and central to everything needed. Tea, coffee, oil, toileteries all provided. Great place.
Apartment near Check Point Charlie
Apartment was on the top floor (5) of a residential building surrounding a small square. It was spacious, mostly quiet, warm, clean and comfortable. There was a lift. The bedrooms and beds were large and had lovely linen. The kitchen included salt, pepper, oil, tea and sugar plus cleaning materials. Having a washing machine was appreciated as we'd been travelling a few weeks. Great location. Underground train station of Hallesches Tor was a just few metres away. Short walk to Check Point Charlie and a small supermarket close by.
The area suffered from a lack of maintenance, general scruffyness, graffiti and amount of rubbish around. It was a little intimidating on arrival but we never felt threatened and was fine after the initial impression. Much of Berlin is like this. Not a problem for us due the the weather when we were there but there was no air conditioning. Fans were provided.
Nice stay in Berlin, close to the underground
Nice stay, comfortable apartment
The entrance of the building is not so clean and there’s a bad smell. It’s not their fault (the apartment is clean) but a deep cleaning is necessary
The apparent was as described and very comfortable
The space and I was clean and tidy and way to keep that way.
Nothing it was a perfect base to explore Berlin for a few days.
