B&B Hotel Berlin City-Ost
About
I'll be honest, when I first pulled up to B&B Hotel Berlin City-Ost, I wasn't expecting much – it's one of those straightforward chain places that looks pretty standard from the outside. But you know what? Sometimes that's exactly what you need, especially in a city like Berlin where you're going to be out exploring most of the time anyway.
The thing that actually surprised me about this place is how well they've nailed the basics without any unnecessary fuss. The rooms are clean and modern in that minimalist German way – think IKEA but with better lighting and a decent shower that actually has proper water pressure. I mean, after walking around Berlin all day (and trust me, you'll be doing a lot of walking), that hot shower hits different. The beds are surprisingly comfortable too, which matters more than you'd think when you're trying to recover from a night out in Friedrichshain or a long day at Museum Island. The soundproofing is pretty solid – I stayed there during what felt like construction season in Berlin, and I could barely hear the street noise.
What I really appreciated was the location situation. You're in the eastern part of the city, which means you're actually closer to some of the cooler neighborhoods that tourists sometimes miss. It's not right in Mitte where everything costs twice as much, but you can still get to the main sights pretty easily via public transport. The S-Bahn connections are solid, and honestly, being a bit removed from the tourist chaos gave me a better feel for how Berliners actually live. There's this great little Turkish place around the corner that I stumbled onto – the kind of spot you'd never find if you were staying in the obvious tourist zones. The staff at check-in were refreshingly straightforward too, none of that overly cheerful hospitality theater, just efficient and helpful when you need something. They spoke English well enough, and check-in was quick even when I arrived later than planned. The 7.7 rating makes sense to me – it's not going to blow your mind with luxury touches, but it delivers on what it promises without any annoying surprises. For the price point, especially considering Berlin's hotel scene has gotten pretty expensive in recent years, it's actually a solid choice if you want something reliable and modern without paying premium rates for location bragging rights.

Amazing room for this price! It has everything a regular traveller needs, we were more than satisfied. The receptionist was also very helpful and nice. As for the surroundings, there are a lot of amazing bistros, cafes, lovely streets to walk around. Metro station that goes directly from main train station is right next to the hotel. When I am back in Berlin, I hope I will be able to stay here again, thank you!
The location is great! U-bahn station outside the hotel. Also a lot of shops, bars and cafes nearby!
Super close to a subway station - you‘re basically already in the subway when you step out of the hotel! Spacious rooms and friendly staff.
Great location outside train station, the room was spotless amazing valur for money
Breakfast, hygiene, staff
Good location, comfortable bed, great breakfast buffet. Lockers for leaving bags on checkout.
Clean rooms and close to the subway so easy access to get into the main part of the city. Close to supermarket and restaurants. Staff were helpful and friendly.
Convenient, clean
The staff gave it a personal friendly feeling which was great. It's a hotel with 24hrs service and directly at the exit of the subway and in proximity to many restaurants in Friedrichshain. Nice breakfast.
Loved the location. I also loved that you could do online check in, and that there wasn't a keycard but a pin for the room. There is also a vending machine in the lobby, in case you wanted to buy snacks during the night. Wi-Fi was also great and you didn't have to pay extra for good speeds! The hotel also has self checkout, you just have to leave the room by 12pm and that's it.
