Das besondere Quartier in Berlin – Pankow
About
You know what? I wasn't expecting much when I first heard the name "Das besondere Quartier" – it sounds a bit pretentious, honestly – but this little 3-star gem in Pankow completely won me over. The thing about staying in Pankow is that you're getting the real Berlin experience without the tourist chaos of Mitte or the party madness of Kreuzberg. It's where actual Berliners live, and you can feel that authenticity the moment you step outside.
The hotel itself has this understated charm that grows on you. I mean, it's not going to blow you away with marble lobbies or anything like that, but there's something genuinely special about the place (hence the name, I suppose). The rooms have this cozy, lived-in feeling – sort of like staying at a well-traveled friend's apartment rather than a sterile chain hotel. What really impressed me was how quiet it stays at night, even though you're still well-connected to the city center. The S-Bahn connections from Pankow are actually pretty solid, and you'll find yourself in the thick of things within 20 minutes or so.
Here's what I really loved: the staff genuinely knows the neighborhood. Not in that rehearsed concierge way, but like they actually live here and can tell you which bakery has the best Schrippe in the morning or where to grab a proper späti beer after hours. The breakfast setup is simple but thoughtful – good coffee, local breads, none of that weird buffet nonsense you get at bigger places. And honestly, for the price point and that 8.6 rating, you're getting incredible value. I've stayed at fancier places in Berlin that left me feeling ripped off, but this one just feels right. It's the kind of place where you end up staying longer than planned because you've accidentally found your temporary Berlin home base.

No breakfast was requested. It was very quiet. The owners were very nice! Their English was not great but was still able to understand them mostly.
The owner was very friendly and helpful We managed the language with Google translate Everything was clean and comfortable The decor was very nice fancy 1980's Easy parking on residential street Easy walk to tram
The kindness and attention of the owner, quiet and warm apartment, the bed was really good, 10 minutes walk from M1 stop.
It is a really great place to stay when you visit Berlin. Location is in a very peaceful area and you can really rest after a long day of sightseeing. It's 30-40minutes from Alexanderplatz and the transport is easy to navigate. The apartment is really spacious, clean, you have everything you need. Yes, the sink is only in the bathroom so you wash the dishes there, but that really doesn't matter much. Beds are big and clean, pillows are soft, wifi works great and overall these little things that someone might find as a negative are really irrelevant when you look at what you are getting. There are two big supermarkets nearby. The hosts are so quiet and so very polite. We didn't even notice them being in the same house. They don't speak English but they use translator so there are really no problems in communication. Overall this is one of the best places I've had a chance to stay in and I recommend it to anyone who wants to visit Berlin but still wants a place to rest.
The privacy. it’s like a second apartment on the second floor, you have your own fridge, boiler, toilet and a living room besides the bedroom. It was actually quite big.
Clean room, friendly lady to greet, very private, quiet area, easy parking and only 15 minutes drive to the centre of the Berlin.
The apartments exceeded expectations. We thought that we rented a room with two beds, but lived in a separate apartment with a kitchen, a bedroom and a spacious hall. The house is located in a beautiful and peaceful area.
I travelled with my friend, we were lucky to meet the owner right on the street. I know just a few sentences in german, but it was enough to understand each other with a help of a bit of gestures. The place was cute and cosy, it has a special atmosphere. I very appreciated the huge bed. The neighborhood is peaceful and quiet, perfect for a walk. There's a shop nearby and a park a bit farther. It takes about an hour to get to the city center, but you can get there by one tram. And need to say again that the owners are very polite and positive people! :)
The apartment is a part of the owners house. Its a bit oldschool but everything is clean and you get a private bathroom, living room, bedroom and a small kitchen area. Located in a quiet suburban type area ~40min drive to the city center by public transport, but its available day and night so that wasn't an issue. There's a shop and pizza place close by. Owner didn't speak english, but they showed us the essential stuff and with context you can kinda understand what they mean.
The hosts were friendly and kind, the place was large, good location near tram and bus stations, there were microwave machine and electic kettle
