Holiday 33 Apartments ABCD Alexanderplatz
About
You know what's funny about Holiday 33 Apartments? The name makes it sound like some generic chain property, but honestly, this place has way more personality than you'd expect. I mean, we're talking prime Alexanderplatz territory here – you step outside and boom, you're in the thick of everything Berlin has to offer. The TV Tower's literally looming over you (which is either cool or slightly ominous depending on your mood), and you can practically roll out of bed to catch the S-Bahn.
The apartments themselves are actually pretty solid for a 4-star setup. Nothing too fancy, but they've got that clean, modern German efficiency thing down pat. The kitchenettes are small but functional – perfect if you want to grab some spätzle from the Galeria Kaufhof food court and heat it up later, or if you're like me and need your morning coffee exactly how you like it. The beds are firm in that European way that either works for you or doesn't, and the soundproofing is decent considering you're in one of the busiest squares in the city. I'll be honest though, if you're a super light sleeper, maybe pack some earplugs – Alexanderplatz doesn't exactly quiet down at night, and the trams start rumbling pretty early.
What really sold me on this place is the location flexibility it gives you. Sure, you're surrounded by tourist central with all the chain restaurants and souvenir shops, but here's the thing locals know – you're also a five-minute walk from some genuinely good spots. There's this little Turkish place on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße that does incredible döner (way better than the tourist traps around the square), and if you head toward Hackescher Markt, you'll hit the real Berlin pretty quickly. The 8.3 rating makes sense to me – it's not going to blow your mind, but it delivers on what it promises. Check-in was smooth, the staff actually spoke decent English without that slightly annoyed expression you sometimes get, and the WiFi worked without me having to call down to the desk three times. Sometimes that's all you need, you know?
