smartments Berlin Prenzlauer Berg
About
You know what struck me first about smartments Berlin Prenzlauer Berg? It's actually on Storkower Straße, which honestly feels more authentic than those touristy spots closer to Alexanderplatz. I mean, you're right in the thick of where actual Berliners live and work – there's something refreshing about waking up to the sounds of real neighborhood life instead of tour groups shuffling past your window at 7 AM. The building itself has that clean, modern vibe that Germans do so well, but without feeling sterile. When I checked in, the whole process was surprisingly smooth (I'd heard mixed things about automated systems, but this worked), and the staff actually seemed to know the area beyond just pointing you toward the nearest U-Bahn stop.
The apartments themselves – because that's really what these are – feel genuinely livable rather than hotel-cramped. The kitchenette isn't just for show; you can actually cook a proper meal, which comes in handy since there's a decent Edeka just a few blocks down on Landsberger Allee. The bed was honestly more comfortable than I expected, and here's a small thing that mattered: the blackout curtains actually work. Berlin summers stay light until nearly 10 PM, so trust me on this one. What really sold me on the place was how quiet it gets at night – Storkower isn straße busy during the day, but it settles down nicely, unlike some of the party-heavy areas in Friedrichshain where you're dealing with noise until 3 AM. The Wi-Fi was solid throughout my stay (I was working remotely), and there's actually decent natural light in the rooms, which sounds basic but you'd be surprised how many places get this wrong.
Location-wise, you're about a 10-minute walk to Landsberger Allee S-Bahn, which connects you pretty much anywhere you need to go in the city. But honestly, I found myself walking around the neighborhood more than I planned – there's this great Vietnamese place called Madame Ngo just off Danziger Straße, and the Sunday market at Kollwitzplatz is totally worth the 15-minute stroll. The area feels like the Prenzlauer Berg that locals still recognize, not completely gentrified but definitely safe and interesting. I stayed here during a pretty busy conference week in October, and while the rates weren't exactly budget-friendly, the space and location made it worth it. The 8.4 rating seems about right – it's not going to blow your mind, but it gets the important stuff right and gives you a genuine taste of living in Berlin rather than just visiting it.
Early hotels booking in Berlin is essential during major events like the Berlinale Film Festival, as accommodations fill up quickly with visitors eager to experience the city's renowned nightlife and cultural scene.

Great studio apartment
I loved this studio apartment. This is the best equipped kitchen I've ever seen for a short-term rental and the cleaning closet on each is a great idea. The view isn't the best (train tracks and muddy parking lot), but we saw some really amazing sunsets from the window.
I guess it is a little far from touristy things, but you are right by the train and can be anywhere in the city within 30 minutes. Can be a little noisy at night if you leave the windows wide open like we did.
Very good
Great location, right above the S-bahn and the tram stop and with several supermarkets nearby. The apartment is fully equipped for any need. It was warm inside, good during cool days, but otherwise there is no AC.
The bed was not really comfortable. There is only one actual chair. The TV has only German channels.
Great, quiet, would definitely stay again
Location, soundproofing, not having to interact with anyone, seamless check in/out
No air-conditioning, shower temperature changed randomly
a Little apartment all for myself for a week was a nice change to living with my roommate at home
Comfortable, easy to reach by train, great for students on a budget, lots of room
Fine!
The apartment was nice, clean and fully equipped.
Without fail before leaving any apartment or any hotel room I stay in, I lock my suitcase. One day I found it opened when I had returned. Nothing was missing. My enquiry to the hotel staff was largely ignored. They took me for a fool and just kept evading my queries. Very rude! So I'm not sure if this place is safe for single female traveler. Also the hair dryer was old and I had to use a tissue to use it every time.
Good connection to transport
Good connection to the local transport (tram, S-Bahn)
A lot of trash outside of the place, especially on your way to the tram. And in warm days it stinks with a piss :(. Though for cold days it is bearable
Comfortable and great kitchen
Very good kitchen with all equipment needed.
Very good
Really clean, and had everything required
It would be highly beneficial if the apartment highlighted the near location of the tram line, as the place is now serviced by a ubahn
Affordable, cozy, and excellent location.
The location is excellent, situated next door to the train station which you could only hear when the window was open which we didn't mind. There's a convenience store nearby, a chemist, and a beauty store too. The room was larger than expected. It comfortably fit two adults and a three year old. We booked this on a good discount rate too so exceptional value for money. The WiFi is extremely good.
There was a bit of dust about and there were a few coffee stains, we didn't bring this to anyone's attention so I can't comment on how friendly customer service is. There's nowhere to store luggage on the last day but they do offer a discount with nearby places who do it at a fee. There is nowhere to store the washing up once washed and it needs to be dried immediately and no counterspace to cook on.
Splendid
The place was clean and quite as it suited my purpose
