Holiday Inn Express – Berlin – Alexanderplatz by IHG
About
Look, I'll be honest – when I first walked up to this Holiday Inn Express on Stralauer Strasse, I wasn't expecting much. It's tucked into this sort of industrial-meets-trendy part of Mitte, and the building itself is pretty understated. But you know what? Sometimes that's exactly what you want in Berlin.
The thing about this location is that you're actually in one of the coolest spots in the city without paying those crazy Hackescher Markt prices. I mean, you can literally walk to Museum Island in about ten minutes, and Alexanderplatz (with all its chaos and that massive TV tower) is right there when you need proper public transport connections. But here's what the booking sites don't tell you – you're also a stone's throw from some genuinely great local spots along the Spree. There's this little stretch of riverside path that locals use for morning jogs, and honestly, it's one of those Berlin moments where you realize you're somewhere special. The hotel sits just far enough back from the main drag that you don't get the street noise, which matters more than you'd think when trams start running at 5 AM.
Inside, it's got that clean Holiday Inn Express vibe – nothing fancy, but everything works properly. The lobby smells like that particular blend of coffee and industrial carpet cleaner that somehow feels reassuring when you're jet-lagged. Check-in was quick (the staff actually spoke decent English, which isn't always a given in Berlin), and the elevators are mercifully fast. My room was on the fourth floor facing the courtyard, so it stayed pretty quiet even on weekend nights when the area gets lively. The beds are firm – like, properly firm, not that mushy hotel bed situation – and the shower pressure is honestly better than my apartment back home. Small thing, but the blackout curtains actually block light, which is clutch during those endless summer days when Berlin stays bright until 10 PM. The breakfast spread is solid too – proper German bread, decent coffee, and they always have those little Berlin pretzels that hit different in the morning. One tiny complaint: the AC can be a bit temperamental, but opening the windows usually does the trick, and you get these nice cross-breezes in the evening. Plus, there's something very Berlin about sleeping with the windows open and hearing the city hum quietly below. For what you pay – especially compared to those boutique places in Kreuzberg that charge twice as much for half the space – this place delivers exactly what it promises, with the bonus of putting you in the middle of everything without feeling like you're stuck in tourist central.

Highly recommended: reasonably priced yet clean and comfortable place for a short stay in Berlin.
The location was perfect, right between two U-Bahn stations and 5 minutes from the S-Bahn station, 10-minute-ride from the central railway station. The room was spacious, yet there was no wardrobe – on the plus side, there was a kettle with tea and instant coffee. Everything was on point for this budget, which is also very reasonable for summertime Berlin. Highly recommend it for summer as the air conditioner worked perfectly!
The only inconvenience was a breakfast space too small for this number of guests. It was easy to find a spot for one person, but for more than that, it might be difficult.
It was a short and pleasant stay in the hotel

Very good
The breakfast was very good. The rooms were clean and the staff was friendly.
One of the elevators was out of order, causing a long wait at breakfast time.

Superb
The bed was amazing. The room was great. And the staff was so welcoming and nice. It was amazing!
There was no hand sanitizer at the breakfast buffet, or any other place. That wasn't very nice. Luckily we did bring our own. And some other guests also had to borrow ours, because they wanted some. But that is really my only complain.
Exceptional
It was clean, easy for travel, friendly and rooms were brilliant
