Hotel Pankow
About
You know what? Hotel Pankow caught me off guard in the best possible way. I'll be honest – when I first pulled up to this 3-star spot in Berlin's Pankow district, I wasn't expecting much. The exterior is pretty understated, sort of blends into the neighborhood, but that's actually part of its charm once you get settled in.
The thing about staying in Pankow is you're getting the real Berlin experience without the tourist circus. I mean, sure, you're not stumbling out your front door onto Unter den Linden, but honestly? That's a relief. The S-Bahn connections are solid – you can get to Mitte in about 20 minutes, and there's something satisfying about coming back to an actual neighborhood at the end of the day. The streets around the hotel have that lived-in feel, with local bakeries that smell incredible in the morning and corner bars where people actually speak German to each other. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no overly enthusiastic desk staff trying to upsell you on spa packages, just friendly efficiency.
The rooms themselves hit that sweet spot between basic and comfortable. Nothing fancy, but everything works, and the beds are actually decent (I'm picky about mattresses). The bathrooms are small but functional, and here's a detail that matters – the water pressure is surprisingly good. You'll hear some street noise if you're facing the main road, but it's not the kind that keeps you up, more like gentle urban background hum. What I really appreciated was how quiet the hallways stayed, even when the hotel seemed pretty full. The 7.5 rating makes total sense to me – it's not going to wow you with luxury touches, but it does the fundamentals well without any unpleasant surprises. Staff seemed to genuinely know the area too, which is rarer than it should be. When I asked about finding a good späti (that's corner store for the uninitiated), they pointed me toward one two blocks over that stayed open late and had a solid beer selection.
Look, if you're the type who needs turndown service and marble everything, this isn't your place. But if you want clean, comfortable, and authentically Berlin without paying Mitte prices, Hotel Pankow delivers exactly what it promises. Plus, there's something nice about staying somewhere that feels more like a neighborhood base than a tourist bubble – you end up discovering parts of the city you'd never see otherwise.

Super efficient and easy check in process, great communication with staff, very clean and tidy; No stressful formalities or friction of any kind. The part of town is quiet and cozy, about 45 minutes from the melting pot. Loved every second at hotel Pankow!
Breakfast was Fantastic plenty of food to choose from...Our son is 7 years old so he was free to eat. The Family room was great plenty of space for us & our two children. We will return again. Staff very friendly & very helpful.
Clean, quiet, comfortable beds (not too soft). Enough space for a family with 2 kids. Convenient auto-checkin machine. An adjacent cafe next to the hotel where you can have a drink till 23:00. A supermarket across the hotel
clean, nice hotel in a calm neighbourhood.
Clean and quite place.Free parking in the street near hotel.Good connection with metro to Berlin center.Personel friendly. We recomend this place.
We stay here most of the times we travel to Berlin. Close to the motorway, so you don't need to drive across the city, easy access to the centre as there is a tram stop right in front of the hotel. Breakfast is nothing fancy, but always fresh and filling enough. Big, comfortable beds ensure good sleep after a day spent visiting the city.
Superb location with excellent public transport connection, rooms spacious and clean. We came a bit early and were surprised to see the rooms already ready to move in. Staff were polite and courteous. Overall me and my family enjoyed our stay.
Pretty good location and the room had everything we needed. Easy to get into Berlin using a the train. Collecting our room card after 3pm was a bit confusing since the reception closes at 3pm. We managed in the end with a help from a kind staff member who was in the building but there could have probably been clearer instructions. Overall not a bad stay and pretty good value for money.
The hotel has large rooms, we were able to fit in family of 4 quite comfortably. Tram station is located just outside the hotel. There is large supermarket just cross the road.
