Hotel the YARD Berlin
About
You know what caught me off guard about Hotel the YARD Berlin? It's actually tucked away on this quiet residential stretch of Alexandrinenstraße, but you're literally five minutes from some of the best nightlife in Kreuzberg. I mean, you can stumble back from Watergate or Prince Charles without dealing with the S-Bahn at 3am – which honestly is worth the booking fee alone if you're planning to explore Berlin's legendary club scene.
The hotel itself has this industrial-chic thing going on that somehow doesn't feel forced or Instagram-try-hard. The lobby's got these massive windows and concrete elements that remind you you're in a former East Berlin neighborhood, but the furniture is actually comfortable (not those awful designer chairs that look better than they sit). Check-in was surprisingly smooth – the staff spoke perfect English and seemed to genuinely know the area rather than just reciting tourist spots. They pointed me toward this little Turkish place around the corner on Oranienstraße that I never would've found otherwise, and it ended up being one of my best meals in Berlin.
What I really appreciated was how quiet the rooms were, considering you're right in the thick of things. The windows are properly soundproofed, which matters because Kreuzberg can get pretty lively, especially on weekends. The rooms themselves are clean and modern without being sterile – good shower pressure (always a gamble in European hotels), decent Wi-Fi, and beds that don't feel like they came from a hostel. Nothing revolutionary, but everything works the way it should. The 8.3 rating makes sense to me – it's not trying to be the Ritz, but it nails what it's going for.
Location-wise, you're perfectly positioned to actually experience Berlin rather than just see it. Görlitzer Park is a short walk if you want to people-watch or grab a beer, and you can easily wander over to the Spree or catch the U1 at Görlitzer Bahnhof. Plus – and this is something I wish more hotels understood – you're close enough to the action that you don't need to plan every move, but far enough from Kottbusser Tor that you're not dealing with the chaos and occasional sketchiness of the main drag. Parking's typically Berlin (meaning good luck), but honestly, you don't need a car here anyway.

Good place in a cool neighbourhood
Yard is a stylish, modern hotel. The location is a little away from the centre of Berlin, but it's easy enough getting to the subway or bus. If you like walking, it's maybe a 40 minute walk from the centre. The room was a good size and clean. I especially liked the shower, which was strong and warm. The bed is large and I found everything comfortable.
The room doesn't have a fridge, coffee maker, or kettle or anything of that nature. I usually like bringing snacks or drinks back so the lack of fridge was a little disappointing.

Very good
The facilities and rooms were fantastic
It is quite far away from most of Berlin attractions. It is close to an overground railway station though.
Refreshing Berlin break, breakfast was nice, fresh eggs and baked beans, friendly staff and cosy atmosphere. We‘ll come
Loved the outdoor area, playground and spa facilities
Very good
Comfortable, spacious, bright rooms. Helpful staff, a nice outdoor space and pool. It's in a good location and easy to access most of Kreuzberg.
Air conditioning was too weak personally, we regularly found ourselves sleeping with windows open because it was simply too hot. WiFi only worked in lobby.
Good for short stay - modern & clean
The hotel is modern, room was clean, with beautiful bathroom and a pleasant atmosphere. I appreciate the good location. A big plus is also the possibility of free parking in the surrounding streets.
What disappointed me, however, was the non-functioning WiFi throughout the stay - I really wouldn't expect that nowadays, especially at this price. And while things can go wrong, I missed at least some small apology from the hotel, like an invitation for coffee or similar attention. I also missed a minibar or at least a small fridge in the room.
Superb
A modern small hotel with extremely friendly staff, a nice garden and an indoor pool, close to the Landwehr canal and just 20 minutes walking distance to lively Bergmann Kiez.
The bistro was closed, and there was no restaurant very close by.
