ibis Berlin Kurfuerstendamm – neu renoviert
About
Look, I'll be honest – when I first saw "ibis" I wasn't expecting much, but this particular one on Bayreuther Strasse really surprised me. The "neu renoviert" part isn't just marketing speak either; you can actually tell they put real money into this renovation. Everything feels fresh without that sterile chain hotel vibe you usually get.
The location is what really makes this place work, though. You're basically planted right between Potsdamer Platz and the famous Ku'damm shopping strip, which means you can walk to most of the stuff tourists want to see without dealing with Berlin's sometimes quirky public transport schedule. I mean, the U-Bahn is great, but there's something nice about just strolling out your front door and being in the mix of things. The neighborhood itself – Tempelhof-Schöneberg – has this interesting residential feel once you get off the main drags. You'll find actual Berliners grabbing coffee at the corner spots, not just other hotel guests wandering around looking lost.
What struck me most was how they managed to keep that efficient ibis approach (you know, no-nonsense check-in, clean rooms that actually work) while adding some personality to the space. The staff seemed genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions – they actually knew the area well enough to give decent restaurant recommendations that weren't just the tourist traps. The rooms themselves are compact but smartly designed; honestly, after walking around Berlin all day, you mostly just want a comfortable bed and a decent shower, both of which deliver here. The soundproofing is surprisingly good too, considering you're on a fairly busy street. I was expecting typical city noise but slept better than I thought I would.
The breakfast situation is solid – nothing fancy, but they have proper coffee and enough variety that you won't get bored if you're staying multiple nights. What I really appreciated was how they handled the small details: decent WiFi that actually works throughout the building, enough outlets in the rooms (seriously, why don't more hotels get this right?), and bathrooms that feel modern without being weirdly minimalist. The 8.1 rating makes sense to me – it's not trying to be luxury, but it executes everything it promises really well. For the price point in Berlin, especially with this location, you're getting solid value without any unpleasant surprises.

Great value for money in top location

Superb
It was a great stay. In a really nice location. Bakery over the road was really nice and German diner kebab stand down the road was great. The facilities were nice. It is an ibis and did what it was meant to do. Clean, practical and comfortable. Don’t expect luxury and therefore is expensive but all accomodation in Berlin was when looking. The staff were lovely and booked us a taxi to our bus stop when we thought we were going to be late. Overall good stay.
Superb
