About this stay

About

I'll be honest – when I first walked into the Meliá Berlin, I wasn't expecting much. It's a solid 4-star place that doesn't scream luxury from the outside, but you know what? Sometimes those are exactly the hotels that surprise you. The lobby has this understated elegance that feels distinctly German – clean lines, good lighting, and staff who actually seem to know what they're doing (which, after some of my Berlin hotel experiences, isn't always a given).

What really won me over was how the place just... works. The rooms are bigger than you'd expect for a European city hotel, and honestly, the beds are fantastic – I'm talking about the kind of sleep where you wake up confused about what time zone you're in. The soundproofing is surprisingly good too, which matters more than you might think in Berlin where the nightlife can get pretty intense. I mean, you're still going to hear the occasional tram if you're on the street side, but it's not the kind of noise that'll keep you up. The bathrooms are properly modern with decent water pressure – again, one of those things you don't think about until you're standing under a sad trickle at 7 AM.

Location-wise, it's in that sweet spot where you're connected to everything but not drowning in tourist chaos. You can actually walk to Museum Island if you're feeling ambitious, and there are proper restaurants nearby – not just the tourist traps with English menus, but places where locals eat. The breakfast setup is pretty solid too, though I'd skip it if you're on a budget and just grab something from one of the bakeries in the area. Check-in was smooth, no weird surprises with city taxes or random fees, and the concierge actually gave me useful recommendations instead of just pointing me toward the Brandenburg Gate like I'd never heard of it. With an 8.4 rating, it's clearly doing something right – and after staying there, I get it. It's not trying to be the fanciest place in Berlin, but it nails the basics while adding enough personality to make you feel like you're actually staying somewhere, not just sleeping in a generic box.

Location 10/10, superperfect close to Stadtmitte, U-Bahn, S-Bahn, Trams, Museums, Unter den Linden etc. Room quiet and clean. Beds hard and good sleep. Breakfast nothing sensational, average hotel breakfast.

Location is great, close to the metro and main train station. A nice set of Rotuals cosmetic was a great surprise.
