The building's got that typical Berlin apartment block vibe – you know, those heavy doors and tile hallways that echo when you walk. Check-in was straightforward, though I'd recommend confirming your arrival time because there isn't always someone at reception. One thing that surprised me was how quiet it gets at night, even though you're on a major square – the windows must be better than they look from the outside.

What really sold me on this place, though, is the location once you understand it. Sure, Hermannplatz isn't Mitte or Prenzlauer Berg, but the U-Bahn connections are actually brilliant – you can get anywhere in the city without changing trains half a dozen times. And the whole area is going through this interesting transformation where old-school Turkish Berlin meets the new creative crowd moving south from Kreuzberg. There's this great little späti (corner shop) right across the square that stays open late, and if you walk five minutes toward Hasenheide, you hit some genuinely good restaurants that haven't made it into the guidebooks yet. The 7.7 rating makes sense to me – it's not going to blow you away, but it does exactly what it promises without any nasty surprises. Perfect if you want to experience Berlin like someone who actually lives here, rather than bouncing between tourist traps in the city center.
