Nena Apartments Hermannplatz
About
You know what? I wasn't expecting much from Nena Apartments when I first rolled up to Hermannplatz – honestly, the area looks a bit rough around the edges if you don't know Berlin. But here's the thing about this neighborhood that most tourists miss: it's actually one of the most authentic parts of Neukölln, and you're right in the thick of real Berlin life. The Turkish bakeries alone are worth staying here for (there's this incredible börek place literally two minutes away that locals queue up for every morning).
The apartments themselves are pretty solid for what you're paying – I mean, we're talking 3-star territory here, so don't expect marble bathrooms or anything fancy. But the rooms are clean, the kitchenettes actually work (which is more than I can say for some places I've stayed), and honestly, having your own space in Berlin for a decent price is kind of a win. The building's got that typical Berlin apartment block vibe – you know, those heavy doors and tile hallways that echo when you walk. Check-in was straightforward, though I'd recommend confirming your arrival time because there isn't always someone at reception. One thing that surprised me was how quiet it gets at night, even though you're on a major square – the windows must be better than they look from the outside.
What really sold me on this place, though, is the location once you understand it. Sure, Hermannplatz isn't Mitte or Prenzlauer Berg, but the U-Bahn connections are actually brilliant – you can get anywhere in the city without changing trains half a dozen times. And the whole area is going through this interesting transformation where old-school Turkish Berlin meets the new creative crowd moving south from Kreuzberg. There's this great little späti (corner shop) right across the square that stays open late, and if you walk five minutes toward Hasenheide, you hit some genuinely good restaurants that haven't made it into the guidebooks yet. The 7.7 rating makes sense to me – it's not going to blow you away, but it does exactly what it promises without any nasty surprises. Perfect if you want to experience Berlin like someone who actually lives here, rather than bouncing between tourist traps in the city center.
Early hotels booking in Berlin is essential during major events like the Berlinale Film Festival, as accommodations fill up quickly with visitors eager to experience the city's renowned nightlife and cultural scene.

Very close to Huxley's, the liquid soap was amazing:)
Really good location, right beside a metro stop on the U6/U7 lines which connected to the city sights. McDonalds, lidl and Dunkin Donuts also right outside which was convenient for us! Excellent wi-fi. Access the location fine - good instructions.
Just what we required. Happy with the extra bed instead of having to use the sofa bed. Nice to have streaming service on TV. Well connected for transport.
I like the location
Clean apartment and central location. Good base for exploring Berlin from for 3 days, also really close to the parkrun.
Great location in Hermannplatz , close to plenty of restaurants, food market, atm and well connected with the rest of the city via public transportation. Staff was friendly and accommodation with my late check out request, communication was smooth via whatsapp.
You have everything you need at the property (water, toaster, coffee machine, dishwasher, kettle, blow dryer, smart tv…). The location is perfect, just near the Hermannplatz metro station. And it’s very warm too.
