About

First Impressions

Walking up to Squat Deluxe Berlin, the hostel on Archenholdstraße, I'll be honest — the name had me curious, and the place definitely delivers on being different. This three-star spot in Lichtenberg isn't your typical hostel experience, and that's exactly what makes it work. The building has this cool, slightly edgy vibe that feels authentically Berlin without trying too hard, you know? It's the kind of place that makes you feel like you've discovered something the guidebooks haven't caught onto yet.

The Lichtenberg Advantage

Here's what I love about staying in this part of Berlin — you're actually living like a local instead of being stuck in the tourist bubble. Lichtenberg has this genuine, lived-in feel that's hard to find in Mitte these days, and honestly, the transport connections are better than you'd expect. The S-Bahn gets you into the city center in about 20 minutes, but when you come back at night, you're in this quieter neighborhood where you can actually hear yourself think. Couples seem to really get this — they've rated the location 8.6, which makes total sense when you want somewhere that feels like home base rather than just a place to crash.

What Sets It Apart

The parking situation alone is worth mentioning — it's free, which is practically unheard of in Berlin these days. I mean, if you're driving around this city, you know what a relief that is. But beyond the practical stuff, there's something about the atmosphere here that feels more grown-up than your average hostel. The common areas have this relaxed energy where people actually hang out and chat, rather than everyone just rushing through with their backpacks.

Room Experience

The room I stayed in was clean and functional — nothing fancy, but everything worked properly, which is more than I can say for some places I've tried in Berlin. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given with hostels), and there's enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. What really impressed me was how quiet it stays at night, even with other guests around. The soundproofing is surprisingly good for a building that clearly has some history to it.

Why Guests Love It

Recent guests have been rating this place 8.7 for location, and after spending time here, I totally get why. It's that sweet spot where you feel connected to real Berlin life but you're not sacrificing convenience. The staff actually knows the neighborhood and can point you toward the good local spots — not just the obvious tourist traps. Plus, there's something refreshing about a hostel that doesn't feel like it's trying to be a party destination. It attracts people who want to explore the city properly, which creates this nice, low-key community vibe that's hard to manufacture.

Really lovely place to stay. Quirky and characterful with everything you need in it for a family.

The Bathtub suite is a little small, but nice for a sleepover. The kitchen is good, with enough utensils. The hosts were kind and helpful, speaking English well, happy to communicate through WhatsApp. The garden is beautiful, although not very private (the other suites overlook the garden). The neighborhood is very quiet and perfect for sleeping in late, or just relaxing. The place is near the U/S-Bahn with good connections to anywhere in Berlin.
