The name is absolutely terrible – time4staying 3 SZ Maisonette – but don't let that fool you because this spot is actually a gem tucked away on Pfalzburger Straße. I mean, who comes up with these names? But honestly, once you're inside this maisonette-style apartment, you'll forget all about the awkward branding.

The location is what really sold me though. Pfalzburger runs parallel to the Ku'damm, so you're literally a three-minute walk from all that shopping and café madness, but – and this is key – you're just far enough off the main drag that you won't hear the tourist hordes at night. I stayed here during the Christmas market season (talk about timing) and while Kurfürstendamn was absolutely bonkers with crowds, our little street stayed surprisingly peaceful. The building itself has that classic Berlin charm, you know, the kind with high ceilings and those massive windows that actually open properly – not like those hotel windows that crack open two inches.

What really makes this work is the setup. It's a proper maisonette, so you've got space to spread out, which honestly feels like such a luxury after cramming into regular hotel rooms. The kitchen actually functions (I made coffee every morning instead of hunting for decent espresso), and there's enough room that if you're traveling with someone, you won't be stepping on each other constantly. The whole place feels lived-in rather than sterile – there are actual books on the shelves, decent lighting for reading, that sort of thing. And the Wi-Fi actually works everywhere, which... well, you'd be surprised how often that's not the case in Berlin apartments.

Getting around from here is dead simple too. Uhlandstraße U-Bahn station is maybe a seven-minute walk, and from there you're connected to everything. But here's what I really appreciated – you can walk to so many places. The Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, Zoologischer Garten, even the ICC if you're here for some conference (though honestly, who goes to Berlin for conferences when there's so much else to see?). I found myself walking back from dinner in Savignyplatz most evenings, which is just pleasant through this neighborhood – tree-lined streets, local cafés that aren't tourist traps, the occasional late-night Späti when you need provisions.

The 9.5 rating makes complete sense once you've stayed here. It's not trying to be flashy or impress you with marble bathrooms, but everything just... works. The shower has proper water pressure, the heating keeps things comfortable without being stuffy, and check-in was refreshingly straightforward. No hovering at reception desks or awkward key-card situations. Sometimes the best places are the ones that get out of your way and just let you enjoy being in Berlin, and this maisonette does exactly that.
