Wilmina Hotel
About
Honestly, the Wilmina Hotel caught me off guard in the best possible way. I mean, you know how sometimes you book a place based on photos and reviews, but you're still crossing your fingers when you walk through the lobby? Well, this wasn't one of those times. The moment I stepped inside, there was this immediate sense that someone actually cared about creating a space that feels... I don't know, intentional? The lobby has this warm, lived-in elegance – not the sterile marble-everywhere vibe you get at some four-star places, but something that actually makes you want to linger with a coffee.
What really got me was the attention to details you don't usually notice until they're missing. The lighting in the rooms is actually usable – you can read without squinting, and there are enough outlets that you don't have to choose between charging your phone and using the lamp. The beds are properly firm (thank god), and the pillows aren't those weird overstuffed things that give you a crick in your neck. I stayed on the third floor, and honestly, the soundproofing was impressive – I could barely hear the street noise, which is saying something for a city hotel. The bathroom had one of those rainfall showerheads that actually works, not just for show, and the water pressure was consistently strong even during what I assume were peak hours.
The staff here gets it, you know? Check-in was smooth without being robotic, and when I asked about a good spot for dinner that wasn't touristy, the front desk guy actually pulled out his phone to show me photos of a place he'd been to the week before. That's the kind of thing that sticks with you. The housekeeping was thorough but not intrusive – they remembered how I liked my towels arranged and didn't mess with my stuff scattered across the desk. Room service arrived faster than promised, and the food was actually hot, which feels like a minor miracle these days. Look, it's not perfect – the elevator can be slow during busy periods, and the Wi-Fi occasionally hiccupped in the afternoons – but these feel like minor quibbles when everything else works so well. The 9.3 rating makes complete sense once you've stayed here. It's one of those places that manages to feel both polished and genuine, which is honestly harder to pull off than you'd think.

Beautiful interior with an interesting history. The food at breakfast was incredible and the room was comfortable and modern. The staff were very kind and helpful.
There is so much to love about this hotel, very accessible, beautifully converted historical building, we loved how the owners have preserved features of it's past life. Decor is very relaxed and beautifully designed. Breakfast was delicious, particularly all the bread and pastries baked at the hotel bakery. So many delightful touches, it felt like the perfect escape. Thank you to the team for making us feel so welcome and helped us celebrate a special occasion. We can't wait to visit again!
Amazing stay, what a place! So cool & contemporary….such a fantastic conversion of the prison & courthouse while retaining original features. One of the best hotels I’ve stayed in. Loved everything about it
