Hotel-Pension Funk am Kurfürstendamm
About
You know what? Hotel-Pension Funk caught me completely off guard. I mean, with a name like that, I wasn't sure what to expect when I booked this place on Kurfürstendamm, but it turned out to be one of those hidden gems that makes you feel like you've discovered something the tour groups haven't ruined yet.
The building itself has this wonderful old Berlin character – you can tell it's been around forever and has stories to tell. It's tucked right into the heart of Ku'damm (that's what locals call Kurfürstendamm, and honestly, you'll sound like a tourist if you say the whole thing), which means you're literally in the middle of everything that matters in Charlottenburg. I actually loved hearing the city wake up in the morning from my window – not in an annoying way, more like Berlin was saying good morning personally. The rooms have this cozy, lived-in feeling that's miles better than those sterile chain hotels. Sure, it's not going to win any design awards, but there's something refreshing about staying somewhere that feels authentic rather than Instagram-perfect. The pension-style setup means it's more intimate than your typical hotel – you'll probably chat with the staff about good local spots, and they actually know what they're talking about.
What really sold me was the location. You're a five-minute walk from Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church (can't miss it), and the shopping along Ku'damm is ridiculous if you're into that sort of thing. But here's the insider bit – duck down some of the side streets and you'll find these incredible little cafés and bars that most visitors never stumble across. The U-Bahn connections are fantastic too, so getting to Mitte or Kreuzberg is painless. Honestly, for a 3-star place, they punch way above their weight. The 7.7 rating makes sense – it's not perfect, and I noticed things like the Wi-Fi being a bit spotty in some corners and the elevator making these charming but slightly concerning sounds. But that's part of the charm, really. You're not paying luxury prices, and you're getting something much more valuable – a real taste of Berlin life. I'd absolutely stay here again, especially if you want to feel like you're actually in the city rather than floating above it in some corporate bubble.

Totally recommended. It is like living in a movie. I loved it
Location, friendly staff, comfortable beds, charm, style, the building, the perceived slower pace of time instead of the daily rush, agreeable breakfast buffet with a decent choice.
Vintage, artistic and nice breakfast!
A very unusual hotel that takes us back to a distant past. Everything is well preserved and of period. It's a nice change from ‘classic’ hotel rooms. Even though the hotel is from an ancient time, it has some very nice modern touches (like the wifi, which works really well).
Great position, I stay always here when in Berlin.
Location, style
Incredible authentic post war look in rooms and hotel
Gorgeous old fashioned hotel in a great location. We loved the very large room and the classic furniture.
Loved the apartment, the style and the vibe of the place. Good breakfast and excellent location.
