InterContinental Berlin, an IHG Hotel
About
Honestly, when I first walked into the InterContinental Berlin, I wasn't expecting to be blown away – you know how these big chain hotels can feel pretty generic sometimes. But this place actually surprised me. The lobby has this understated elegance that doesn't scream "look how fancy we are" but still makes you feel like you've stepped into somewhere special. There's this interesting mix of modern German design with those classic luxury touches that somehow works really well together.
What I love about staying here is how it sits right in the heart of things without feeling like you're trapped in tourist central. You're walking distance from Potsdamer Platz (which, let's be honest, can be a bit much during the day but is gorgeous at night), and the Brandenburg Gate is close enough that you don't need to deal with the U-Bahn every time you want to see it. The staff actually knows the neighborhood – I mean, they gave me directions to this little bakery around the corner that I never would've found otherwise, and it became my morning ritual. The rooms are what you'd expect from a 5-star place, but they're not trying too hard to impress. Good blackout curtains, which is crucial if you're dealing with jet lag, and the beds are legitimately comfortable – not just hotel-marketing comfortable.
The service is where this place really shines though. Check-in was smooth even when I arrived way too early (classic mistake), and they actually held my bags without making it feel like I was asking for a huge favor. I stayed here during one of those crazy busy conference weeks in September, and somehow they still managed to make everything feel relaxed and unhurried. The 8.7 rating makes total sense to me – it's not perfect (the breakfast gets pretty crowded if you're not an early riser, and parking isn't cheap), but it's the kind of place where the little things just work. You know what I mean? The WiFi doesn't cut out during video calls, the shower pressure is actually decent, and when you call the front desk, someone picks up on the second ring. It's one of those hotels where you can focus on enjoying Berlin instead of dealing with hotel drama, which is exactly what you want when you're trying to explore a city as layered and fascinating as this one.

Was very pleased and happy with the hotel itself as well as the staff. They were very helpful. Breakfast was good and location excellent. They were even so nice that didn’t charge me for the drinks I took from minibar.
The location was perfect and the breakfast was excellent
