InterContinental Berlin by IHG
About
You know that moment when you walk into a hotel lobby and immediately think "okay, this is going to be good"? That's exactly what happens at the InterContinental Berlin. I mean, the location alone – right on Budapester Straße in Mitte – puts you literally steps from Potsdamer Platz and about a five-minute walk to the Brandenburg Gate. But honestly, it's not just about being close to tourist stuff (though that's nice). You're also right next to Tiergarten, which I actually think is one of Berlin's best-kept secrets for morning runs or evening walks when you need to decompress from all the sightseeing.
The building itself has this sort of understated elegance that feels very Berlin – not flashy like some five-star places, but substantial. The rooms are what you'd expect from InterContinental, but with these little touches that show someone actually thought about what travelers need. The blackout curtains are properly thick (trust me, Berlin summer days start early), and the air conditioning actually works, which isn't a given in this city. I stayed on the 12th floor once and the view over the city was honestly spectacular – you can see clear across to the TV Tower at Alexanderplatz on a good day. The bathrooms have those deep soaking tubs that are perfect after spending eight hours walking around Museum Island, and the water pressure is consistently good, which might sound boring but you'll appreciate it.
What really sets this place apart though is how the staff handles the constant flow of business travelers and tourists without making either group feel rushed. Check-in is usually smooth even during peak season (avoid arriving right at 3 PM if you can help it – that's when tour groups tend to descend). The concierge team actually knows Berlin beyond the obvious recommendations – they'll point you toward that little Vietnamese place on Kantstraße that doesn't look like much but serves the best pho in the city, or tell you which U-Bahn entrance gets you to Hackescher Markt fastest. The hotel bar is pricey, sure, but it's also one of the few places in the area where you can have a quiet conversation after 9 PM without competing with techno music. Parking is available but expensive – honestly, just use the excellent public transport connections instead. The Kurfürstendamm S-Bahn station is basically across the street, and from there you can get anywhere in the city without thinking twice. That 8.8 rating makes perfect sense to me – it's the kind of place that consistently delivers without trying too hard to impress, which in Berlin's hotel scene, is actually pretty impressive itself.

Lovely hotel, great location. Had a small problem with my room, staff quickly dealt with it and were very apologetic. The situation was handled extremely well by all involved and even had a personal note from the manager to see them directly. Exceptional service

Exceptional
Great hotel! I would definitely stay there again if I go to Berlin. It has a very good location. A bus stop is in front of the hotel. There is also an S-Bahn near by. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was fantastic. For those who might be interested, there is a zoo in 5 mins.
Superb
Good and big rooms, nice service level incl vallet parking. Breakfast ok. The area is not the hippiest area of Berlin but next to Tiergarten and shopping district.
Cost of sauna is 20€, pool access 10€. Small hiccups - upon checking the extra bed was not done and during the whole stay safety box did not work, once it was "fixed" but worked for 5mins.
Exceptional
Clean, well equippes hotel. Spotlessly clean rooms. Impressive breakfast, the best I have experienced recently. The breakfast includes real espresso, latte, capuccino, made from braista guy. Real fresh squeezed orange juice, you dont see that often. Service in the breakfast area was perfectly organized. Special thank to Alexis, a cuban guy who was amaizing!
