Numa Berlin Friedrichshain
About
You know what? I wasn't expecting much when I first walked up to Numa Berlin Friedrichshain on Scharnweberstraße – honestly, the street looks pretty unremarkable from the outside. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. It's one of those modern boutique spots that feels more like staying at a design-savvy friend's apartment than a typical hotel, which makes sense since Numa does this whole "apart-hotel" concept really well.
The location is actually perfect if you want to experience Berlin like locals do, rather than just hitting the tourist spots. You're right in the heart of Friedrichshain, which means you can walk to Boxhagener Platz in about five minutes (great for the Saturday market, by the way), and the East Side Gallery is basically around the corner. I mean, you're literally staying where all the interesting stuff happened after the Wall came down. The U-Bahn connection at Warschauer Straße is super close too – I could hear the trains sometimes, but it wasn't annoying, more like that gentle city hum that actually helps you sleep. Plus, you'll be stumbling distance from some of Berlin's best bars and clubs, though the neighborhood has mellowed out enough that it's not completely chaotic during the week.
What I really loved about this place was how they've nailed that minimalist Scandinavian-meets-German efficiency thing without making it feel cold. The rooms have these huge windows that flood everything with light, and the kitchenettes are actually functional – not just for show like in some places. I ended up cooking breakfast most mornings because there's a decent REWE supermarket just down the street, and honestly, sitting by that big window with my coffee watching Berliners bike to work felt more authentic than any hotel breakfast buffet. The staff operates more like apartment building concierges than traditional hotel employees, which took some getting used to, but they know their stuff about the neighborhood. Check-in was seamless through their app system – very Berlin, very efficient. The only thing that might throw some people off is that it doesn't have that full-service hotel vibe with a big lobby and restaurant, but that's kind of the point. You're staying in Friedrichshain to live like a local for a few days, not to hide away in some international hotel bubble.

A fantastic, modern hub to stay at during a visit to East Berlin
Fantastic, new accommodation in Friedrichshain, a block from the U5, and an enjoyable walk south to the river and associated stations. Many streets with restaurants located within blocks of the complex, together with green spaces. The apartment was very clean, modern, and most things appeared barely used. The medium apartment was more space than needed for 1, and would be very comfortable for a couple.
The only thing that would've made it a perfect stay would've been having tissues available. There was literally nothing else to fault.
Very good location, easy to enter, fast internet, super clean and brand new
Very clean and super comfortable bed!
Too small room for the price
cute, affordable apartment with kitchenette in Friedrichshain
We had stayed at an enormous room in a Numa in a different part of Friedrichshain last year, so when we arrived,I was quite surprised at how small the apartment was (though they give you sizes in the description - my bad). Because there was a large armoire that was able to devour all of our clothing and some other items, the size of the room stopped being an issue. Friedrichshain is a loud part of Berlin (which is already a pretty loud place), but the minute that all the windows were closed, we couldn't hear any outside noise. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was roomy with an excellent shower. We didn't use the stove top at all, but we had breakfast in the room every day, and were able to make lunch sandwiches for when we were on the go. The air conditioning was excellent! I loved the basement setup with the washers and dryers, the drying rack (we brought it into our apartment while using it), the closet with tea, coffee, towels, toilet paper and other items. Berlin is an expensive city, but the Numa apartments are very reasonable for what you get.
The kitchen came with two of everything (two plates, two bowls, two forks, two mugs, etc; however, there WERE four glasses). I appreciate that Numa doesn't want people to have guests over, especially for bachelor/bachelorette parties, but old folks like us would have appreciated not having to wash up after every meal, and we would love to have been able to use one plate upon which to put sliced bread, cold cuts, and/or fruit. In the larger scheme of things, this is not terrible.
Enjoyable.
Clean, comfortable, quite close to U-Bahn. Coffee maker, kettle and variety of hot drinks and access to refills.
The fact that I couldn’t get round the bed to straighten the sheet as it was up against a wall.
Exceptional
Spacious, modern, clean, great location near the subway
Exceptional
Everything worked fine, all we needed was at hand. Extra points for laundry possibility and AC! Th location was perfect for our needs, there was a tiny shop just around the corner and also a cafe, a couple of restaurants and the subway station.

Exceptional
Extremely clean room, totally spotless. Great location, a three minute walk away from a metro station. There are late night convenience stores and a pharmacy in the same block, as well as a bakery right across the street. Only 20-25 minutes away from the city center. The room also had some complementary items such as a hair dryer, kettle, a coffee maker, tea, milk, etc.
Superb
Liked the bed. The shower was great. Air conditioning was amazing. There was tea and coffee and milk.
No balcony. Small room.
Nice rooms, horrible check-in
Lovely room, good facilities
Online check-in was a nightmare. I paid online but after 10 hours (and two ignored WhatsApp messages) I had still not received door codes and instructions. After SIX failed calls (cut off when the keypad options didn't suit the algorithm) I finally got through to someone who at first said they had not received payment, but then discovered that they had, after all, and sent more or less accurate instructions (one of the messages left out a detail of the PIN code, but I was able to guess it). Luckily I had two phones so I was able to get all the booking references without having to scrabble around for pens and paper... I would really not want to go through that again. It would have been nice to see some staff, as well...
Overall a good exprerince, I would recomend it!
I liked the location and design of the hotel
As our room was very small we would appreciate a bench or patio at the yard of the hotel so we can spend some time there with our friends who were staying there as well. Also a vending machine would also be useful.
