ROD 1 cozy city apartment
About
You know what caught me off guard about ROD 1? I was expecting just another cookie-cutter Berlin apartment rental, but this place actually has character. It's tucked away on Rodenbergstraße in Pankow – and before you roll your eyes thinking "oh great, I'll be stuck in the middle of nowhere," let me tell you that this part of Berlin is having a serious moment. The whole area feels like what Prenzlauer Berg used to be before it got completely overrun with tourists and overpriced cafés.
The apartment itself is properly cozy without being cramped, which honestly is harder to pull off than you'd think. Someone clearly put thought into the layout – there's this nice flow between rooms that makes it feel bigger than it probably is on paper. The morning light comes in really nicely (I'm assuming you'll get the front-facing unit), and you can actually open the windows without feeling like you're breathing in exhaust fumes. The whole building is pretty quiet too, which surprised me given how close you are to everything. I mean, you're maybe a 10-minute walk to Schönhauser Allee where all the action is, but Rodenbergstraße itself stays relatively peaceful even on weekend nights.
What I really appreciated was how the owners seem to get what travelers actually need. The kitchen is small but functional – you can make proper coffee in the morning and maybe cook something simple if you're tired of eating out every meal. The Wi-Fi is solid (I was working remotely for part of my stay), and there's enough storage space that you're not living out of your suitcase the whole time. Honestly, the whole setup just works. You're close enough to walk to Kollwitzplatz for the Saturday market, or catch the U2 from Senefelderplatz when you want to head into Mitte or Kreuzberg. But here's the thing – you might find yourself hanging around Pankow more than you planned. There's this great little bakery around the corner that locals actually go to, and the whole neighborhood has this lived-in feeling that tourist-heavy areas sometimes lack. Check-in was straightforward, parking isn't a nightmare if you're driving, and you'll sleep well – which, let's be honest, is half the battle when you're exploring a city like Berlin.
Visitors often choose Berlin apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent German capital.
